Senator Reichenbach Speaks To Sold-Out Crowd at Legislative Breakfast

The Greater Florence Chamber would like to thank South Carolina Senator Mike Reichenbach for being the guest speaker Friday at the Chamber’s Legislative Breakfast held at the Florence Center. More than 250 business and community leaders attended the event.

Senator Reichenbach touched on many issues being worked on in Columbia, including property tax and income tax topics.

The Chamber’s Legislative & Community Breakfasts are informational gatherings held twice each year covering central community topics as well as legislative updates.

The breakfast program was made possible by Duke Energy and TD Bank.

Montessori School of Florence Celebrates Montessori Education Week with Community Events and Open Houses

The Montessori School of Florence (MSF) will celebrate Montessori Education Week, February 22–28, with a series of engaging events designed to highlight the Montessori method and welcome families and community members to learn more about this child-centered approach to education.

Montessori Education Week is an annual celebration of the Montessori philosophy, which emphasizes hands-on learning, independence, curiosity, and respect for each child’s unique educational journey. Throughout the week, MSF will host school-based and community-centered activities, many of which are open to the public.

Business Updates from the SC Statehouse

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives unanimously passed the State of South Carolina Small Business Tax Cut of 2026 (H. 5006), legislation that would exempt the first $10,000 of a small business’s personal property (BPP) from county taxation, streamline compliance requirements, and eliminate the tax entirely for businesses with less than $10,000 in taxable personal property. The bill now heads to the Senate for further consideration.

Members of the 126th South Carolina General Assembly will return to Columbia this week to begin the final year of the two-year legislative session.

Leadership Florence Class Visits Columbia for Florence County Legislative Day

The Greater Florence Chamber’s 2026 Leadership Florence Class spent Tuesday, February 10th, in Columbia for Florence County Legislative Day.

The group toured the State House and heard from the Florence Legislative delegation and Speaker of the House, Murrell Smith Jr. The cohorts were recognized on the House floor by the Florence delegation.

The class visited with SLED to learn about the agency and their impact on law enforcement statewide.

The class ended Legislative Day attending the Florence County Day reception at the Columbia Museum of Art.
