Save the Date for Friends of the Library Book Sale

The Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library in Florence will hold its annual book sale Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A wide variety of gently used or like-new popular fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books will be available, along with assorted DVDs and CDs. Most items will be priced from one to two dollars or less. Additionally, a selection of new books on local history topics will be available at special pricing. The sale will take place in the Joseph Stukes Meeting Room. Cash and major credit/debit cards accepted. Proceeds from items sold go to Friends of Florence County Library to support library programs, services, and collections.

Lighthouse Ministries Good Neighbor Gala 2023

The Good Neighbor Gala is a fundraiser to support Lighthouse Ministries. Join them for a night of drinks, dinner, good neighbor gifts, and stories from some of our favorite neighbors!

During the evening, you will hear first-hand stories of how your contributions have changed the lives of those within our community.

This event, scheduled for Thursday, September 7th, will honoring Erik and Laura Marechal as our Good Neighbor of the Year.

Women In Commerce Luncheon Scheduled For August 31

The Greater Florence Chamber will host the first Women in Commerce Luncheon on Thursday, August 31st at the Florence Center. The festivities will begin at 11:30 am with a Mingle and Mocktails. The lunch and program will be starting at 12:00 noon.

This new event will be focused on networking opportunities to make professional friendships, business contacts and develop build key relationships that will help grow your business reach and personal career.

The keynote speakers for the Women In Business Luncheon will be Donna Isgett, President and CEO of McLeod Health, and Costa King Cockfield, Chief Nursing Officer of MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.  Both will be sharing their inspirational journeys in career growth.

Business Person Of The Year Nominations Are Now Open

If you know someone you feel is a successful businessperson with a record of responsibility toward employees, customers and members of the community, you may want to consider nominating them for the Businessperson of the Year. This person must be a member of the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce and be associated with a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation or professional practice in the Florence area. Elected officials and employees of government or not-for-profit organizations are ineligible unless they are also involved in business and meet eligibility requirements. The deadline for name nominations is Wednesday, August 2nd.

Junior Leadership Florence County Kicks Off With An Opening Retreat

The 2023-2024 Junior Leadership Florence County 4-H Program traveled to Camp Bob Cooper this week for their successful opening retreat! The group enjoyed rock climbing and swimming in Lake Marion while bonding with team building, leadership development designed for high schoolers, and of course, s’mores.

The students will reconvene in August for a social bowling event, and the monthly sessions begin in September with Education Day.

The JLFC program is made possible through the partnership of Clemson Extension 4-H, Francis Marion University, and the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce, as well as the involvement of the Florence County community.

Thank you to Camp Bob Cooper for our stay and to Florence School District Two for providing transportation for the students.

Emerging Leaders Summer Institute Kicks Off

The 2023 Emerging Leaders Summer Institute class kicked off their summer sessions with a meet and greet on June 10th and a retreat on June 11th.

The retreat was facilitated by: Pivot10 Results. Florence City Councilman Chaquez McCall also spoke to the group about City progress and leadership.
