Florence’s Pecan Festival Highlighted By Southern Living

Every November Florence, South Carolina, gets a little nutty. And this year will be no exception as over 50,000 people are expected to attend the city’s annual Pecan Festival on November 1, the largest of its kind in the world.

“What started as a small single-block event to bring folks to our downtown and spark ideas and reinvestment has evolved into a nine-block takeover of historic Downtown Florence with exceptional entertainment, food, and fellowship,” says Hannah Davis, Main Street Manager for the Florence Downtown Development Corporation.

The small, local festival started in 2003 but grew quickly in popularity and was officially designated as the official South Carolina State Pecan Festival in 2011. This year marks 21 years of celebrating all things pecans for the city.

Grace for Vets FREE Car Wash At Scrubby’s On November 11

Scrubby’s Car Wash, along with over 3,600 other car wash locations across the nation, will provide FREE car washes to veterans and current military service personnel, under the Grace For Vets FREE Wash Program on November 11th (hours may vary by location). Washes will be given rain or shine at all Location(s). The FREE washes are given to honor and recognize those that have and are serving in the armed forces.

Grace For Vets was founded by Mike Mountz, former owner of Cloister Wash & Lube, in Ephrata, PA in 2004. Mountz vowed to find a way to honor veterans when he served and saw first-hand amputees and the seriously wounded at the Veterans Hospital in Valley Forge, PA. Several years after opening his first car wash, he started the Grace For Vets FREE Wash Program. With the help of car washes across the country who participate, more and more military servicemen and women are recognized each year through this program. “This day is not about the car wash operators who are providing the FREE washes, it’s about honoring and recognizing those that have and are serving and protecting our country. It’s an exciting and emotional day for everyone. Our management team and employees look forward to giving back to those that have given so much.”
