Temple & Hogsette Law Group Donate Toiletry Bags To The Guest House At McLeod

As part of its continued commitment to the local community, Temple & Hogsette Law Group has donated 250 bags to The Guest House at McLeod, providing comfort and essential supplies to families staying near their hospitalized loved ones at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

This charitable effort was made possible through the support of community partners, including by Drs. Miller, Thomas & Ta – Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, who contributed dental hygiene products, and Jody and Larry Chandler of Slim Chickens and Firehouse Subs, who donated gift cards to their restaurant. Each care bag includes shampoo, conditioner, soap, a comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, bottled water, a notepad and pen for recording medical updates, and the Slim Chickens gift card—offering both practical assistance and a touch of compassion.

“We are so fortunate to have the McLeod Guest House in Florence,” said Alec Hogsette, partner at Temple & Hogsette Law Group. “McLeod plays a vital role in the well-being of our region, and so many in our community have experienced its care firsthand. Contributing to the Guest House is a meaningful way for us to support those families facing medical hardships and to help lighten their burden during an already challenging time.”

South Florence High School Named Palmetto’s Finest

Cheers could be heard throughout the hallways at South Florence High School Wednesday afternoon as the school was announced as the winner of the Palmetto’s Finest award. With this prestigious award from the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA), South Florence is recognized as the best high school in the state. This is the third year in a row that a school in Florence 1 has won this award for excellence.

In order to be considered for the Palmetto’s Finest award, South Florence submitted an extensive application that included information about school culture, student achievement and instructional programs. The school received two visits from the Palmetto’s Finest Committee, who conducted on-site evaluations, talking with students and staff and visiting classrooms to view instruction as it was taking place.

Students and staff watched SCASA’s livestream Wednesday from their classrooms, anxiously waiting for the news that had been several months in the making.

GSSM Students Engage In First-of-its-Kind Service-Learning Experience In Guatemala

Twenty-four students and three employees from the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) recently returned from an immersive service and global learning experience in Guatemala, held April 19–27, 2025. The trip marked the first time a high school group collaborated with MEDLIFE on a service-learning project in the country.

“Our partnership with MEDLIFE has allowed us to offer an outstanding global learning experience that includes meaningful service for students interested in medicine and health-related careers,” said Randy LaCross, senior vice president for outreach and global initiatives. “I’m proud of what our team learned while serving in Guatemala and the many lives they impacted through their service.”

During their time abroad, the GSSM team traveled to Antigua, Guatemala, to learn firsthand about healthcare access and delivery in a developing region. Students actively participated in mobile medical clinics, assisting in efforts to provide essential healthcare services to underserved communities. In addition to their work in the clinics, students completed a service project and explored Guatemalan culture through educational and community engagement activities.
