New Rankings for Charlotte Airport

CLT is the fifth most connected airport in the country for domestic services, according to OAG’s 2023 Megahubs index.  OAG, the leading data platform for the global travel industry, ranked airports with the highest ratio of possible scheduled connections to the number of destinations served by that airport.

The top five airports for domestic connectivity, according to OAG, are: 1. Chicago O’Hare International (ORD), 2. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL), 3. Denver International (DEN), 4. Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) and 5. Charlotte Douglas International (CLT).

Florence Regional Airport offers service commercial air service by American Airlines with direct flights to Charlotte International and the more than 1,000 different city connections.

Florence & Hartsville Chambers Host The SC Chambers’ Grassroots Tour

The Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce teamed up to present the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Annual Grassroots Tour last Tuesday.

This year’s luncheon meeting was held at The Edition at the Hartsville Museum. Bob Morgan, president and CEO of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, led the program. The catered lunch was sponsored by Sonoco Products.

Each fall, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce partners with regional and local chambers across the state on the annual tour, which allows the S.C. Chamber to hear from businesses from around the state on issues they face that they would like addressed. The feedback received from the meetings will help shape the S.C. Chamber’s agenda for 2024 and set the chamber’s priorities for the legislative agenda. This year’s tour was sponsored by S.C. Blue Cross-Blue Shield.

Murphy Monk, President of the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce, said she was pleased with the turnout for the sold-out event. She and Mike Miller, President of the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce, were joined by members from both chambers.

Chamber Announces 2023 Community Healthcare Breakfast

MUSC To Launch New Graduate Program In Florence Focusing On Rural Healthcare

The Medical University of South Carolina is launching a new graduate program in Florence, according to a press release.

The medical education program will launch through MUSC’s Regional Health Network and begin at the MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.

Starting July 2024, eight graduating internal medicine resident physicians spots will be introduced for the program per year. They’re also planning for eight family medicine residents to be added in the following year. The press release even says rural track OB-GYN and rural track emergency medicine programs are also being considered.

Mitchell’s Soul Food Is Open For Business At Florence Regional Airport

Victoria Mitchell (owner) along with family members, friends and Chamber Ambassadors welcomed Mitchell’s Soul Food Restaurant to the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce on Monday, September 25th.

Victoria’s Love of God, family, food, and tradition are the cornerstones of Mitchell’s Soul Food. As a child, Victoria’s mother would fry fish every Friday for the family. It is one of Victoria’s fondest memories and would be the inspiration for starting her business.

McLeod Health’s Pediatric Education Day Bridges Classroom, Practice

To help bridge the gap between classroom teachings and real-world practice in pediatrics, McLeod Health brought in nursing and paramedic students from local colleges to learn firsthand from its professionals.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals specifically with infants, children and teenagers. The very first Pediatric Education Day, held at the McLeod Medical Plaza on Monday, was attended by over 130 students who learned about a variety of topics from pediatric forensics to childhood nutrition.

“We have one pediatric floor, one labor and delivery unit, one (neonatal intensive care unit), but we service so many schools,” said Charity Gerald, director of recruiting and workforce development. “We wanted to make sure we were able to give everybody ample opportunity to be introduced to pediatric care at McLeod Health.”

Drs Bruce and Lee Foundation Library Hosting Storyteller Event

The Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library will be hosting Donna Washington, a well renowned storyteller, as she tells ghost stories for adults. There will be two programs on Tuesday October 10: one at 10:00 a.m.; and one at 5:30 p.m. in the Stukes Meeting Room.  Children 10 and older are welcome to attend with a parent or adult guardian.

Washington is an internationally known, multiple award winning storyteller, spoken word recording artist, and author. A highly animated performer, she has been entertaining, educating, and inspiring audiences with her vocal pyrotechnics and deep characterizations that bring folklore, literary tales, and personal narratives to life for over thirty years.
