Florence & Hartsville Chambers To Host The SC Chambers’ Grassroots Tour – Are You Attending?

The Greater Florence & Hartsville Chambers will be hosting the 2023 SC Chamber Grassroots Tour Luncheon on Tuesday, September 26 at The Edition in Hartsville, 221 North 5th Street. Doors open at 11:15am and the program begins at 11:30am. Lunch is provided by Sonoco.

Bob Morgan, President & CEO of the SC Chamber of Commerce, will be leading the program discussion and legislative review.

Each year, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce partners with local chambers to present the SC Chamber’s Alliance Grassroots Tour providing businesses a look at the future legislative agenda.

The interactive luncheon offers the SC Chamber delegation the opportunity to hear from local business and industry leaders about operational issues faced in today’s business environment. The feedback received will help shape the Chamber’s 2024 Competitiveness Agenda and set the Chamber’s priorities for the next legislative session.

BMW 2023 Supplier Diversity Conference

The Greater Florence Chamber attended the BMW 2023 Supplier Diversity Conference In Greenville on Wednesday, August 30th.

The program and luncheon was attended by thousands of executives, businesses and agencies from around the world.

The keynote presenter was Mervant Vera of “America’s Got Talent” fame.

MUSC Health Florence and Marion Medical Centers Announce DAISY Award Recipients

MUSC Health Florence and Marion Medical Centers would like to announce the most recent DAISY honorees. The DAISY award is given to a nurse whose job performance exemplifies the mission, vision and values of MUSC Health. The recipient must also keep a consistent focus on meeting patient-family goals, collaborate with the healthcare team to meet patients’ needs, use critical thinking to deliver extraordinary patient care, and demonstrate a caring attitude, as well as professionalism in the workplace during all situations, according to the hospital announcement.

MUSC Health Florence Medical Center recently named 8th floor MedSurg registered nurse, Teresa Jenkins, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for nursing. She has spent 37 years in nursing.

MUSC Health Marion Medical Center recently also named Licensed Practical Nurse Shenna Davis, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for nursing.

Annual Membership Luncheon Scheduled For September 20

The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce has announced its guest speaker for the 2023 Membership Luncheon set for Wednesday, September 20.

Jeff Deaton, Managing Director at AESC US., will address the more than 500 plus business and civic leaders who will attend the Chamber’s fall luncheon. In his role, Deaton is responsible for the US business operations for the facilities in Florence, SC, Bowling Green KY, and Smyrna, TN.

AESC is a global leader in developing next generation EV battery technology and will be opening operations here in Florence County soon. The AESC Florence site will support a partnership with BMW Group, supplying technology-leading battery cells for next generation electric vehicle models produced at BMW’s Spartanburg plant.

The event will also include the announcement and presentation of the Business Person of the Year, which is sponsored by Wells Fargo.

The luncheon will be held at the Florence Center, the doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and the program begin at noon. Registration is $40 for members, $50 for non-members and $475 for a special reserved table of 8.

Virtus Academy Announces High School Addition

Florence’s Virtus Academy announced last Thursday that the school has finalized a deal to purchase surrounding property and receive funds to build a high school facility with a gymnasium to serve the school’s students.

On Tuesday, August 22nd the school, acting through its board of directors, closed on the issuance of South Carolina Job Economic Development Authority Facilities Revenue Bonds in the amount of $13,890,000. The school selected Hubrich Contracting, Inc., which will begin construction on the high school in early September to open the facility for the 2024-2025 school year. The new high school building will be more than 28,000 square feet with a gymnasium that is about 12,000 square feet.
