HopeHealth Celebrated National Health Center Week With A Business After Hours

HopeHealth celebrated National Health Center Week on Thursday, August  10th with a Chamber Business After Hours and it drew a large crowd.

The event began at the Medical Plaza Offices on N Irby St. offering an array of hors d’oeuvres and conversation about HopeHealth’s pharmacy and their mission to serve the community.

Later PDRTA transported participants to the HopeHealth Pharmacy on Pine Needles Rd., where everyone enjoyed dessert and cocktails.

Emerging Leaders Participants Participate In Final Session

The Chamber’s Emerging Leaders had their final session today, Government and Civic Engagement. The group was hosted by the City of Florence for breakfast.

The cohorts heard from the Mayor of Florence, Florence County Administrator, Florence Police Department and the City of Florence Deputy City Manager. The final stop for the class was Lighthouse Ministries for lunch courtesy of Arbys and presentations from House of Hope and Man2Man Fatherhood Initiative.

Fellows in Education Group Visit Florence 1 Schools – The Farm

The 2023-2024 Fellows in Education program started its 9th year with an informative visit to Florence 1 Schools – The Farm, on Tuesday with Jeff Murry sharing the Farm to School programs efforts to create a culture of wellness, improve food quality and engage students.

Each month’s program centers on a different educational experience that is unique to the classroom. It offers opportunities for community leaders to contribute to the development of better education policies in the communities in which they live and work.

The Fellows in Education Program is a partnership between the Florence Chamber, The Schools Foundation and Florence 1 Schools.

U.S. Congressman Russell Fry Visits Florence Chamber For Legislative Drop-In

To a group gathered Thursday, U.S. Congressman Russell Fry said his goal is to get the federal government “back to basics” to reduce spending and lower inflation.

Fry visited the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce to give an update on the goings-on in Washington D.C. and to connect with local leaders. Around the Pee Dee and Grand Strand regions of South Carolina, Fry said he has been looking to better understand the areas he serves.

Un-Silence the Violence With Pee Dee Coalition’s Breaking Free Challenge

This year, Pee Dee Coalition will celebrate the 12th Annual Breaking Free Distance Challenge this October! The theme for this year’s challenge is “UN-Silence the Violence”. The challenge will take place virtually from October 1st to October 31st and will raise critical funds for the Coalition’s Emergency Safe Shelter in Florence for women and children who sought refuge from domestic violence.

In the last three fiscal years, 292 women and children sought refuge from domestic violence in the Coalition’s Emergency Safe Shelter and stayed 7,602 nights. According to the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, 1 in 3 women have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.

Chamber’s Annual Membership Luncheon To Be Held September 20th

The Florence Chamber of Commerce will host its Annual Chamber Membership Luncheon on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Florence Center. Jeff Deaton, AESC U.S. Managing Director will be the keynote speaker.

The luncheon is open to all chamber members, as well as area business and community leaders.  Doors will open at 11:30 am and the program will begin at 12:00 noon. The Business Person of the Year will be announced at the closing of program.

Reserved tables of 8 are $475 and individual Chamber member tickets are $40 and $50 non-members.

David Lee Murphy To Headline Concert At Carolina Bank Field

he City of Florence has partnered with the Florence Flamingos to host the very first concert event at Carolina Bank Field on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at 5:30pm. This event will feature David Lee Murphy, George Birge, and the Jebb Mac Band so join them for a night filled with music and fun!

NASCAR Cup Series Hauler Parade Returns September 1st

Back by popular demand, Darlington Raceway announced Thursday that the NASCAR Cup Series Hauler Parade will return after a three-year hiatus for the Crown Royal presents Darlington Labor Day Race Weekend.

The parade will be Sept. 1, with the route beginning at Florence-Darlington Technical College and ending at The Track Too Tough to Tame. Beginning at 4 p.m., fans are invited to the Florence-Darlington Technical College staging area, where they can take photos with their favorite haulers while enjoying music and food from local vendors.

Terrence Carraway Memorial 5K To Be Held At Darlington Raceway

The Terrence Carraway Memorial 5K, presented by Brown’s RV Superstore, features a course around the historic-Darlington Raceway in memory of Florence Police Officer, Sgt. Terrence Carraway. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Terrence F. Carraway Foundation. The race will be held on Thursday, August 31 at 6:30 PM.

All race participants will receive a t-shirt and medal. The race will be run in partnership with Simply Timing to benefit the Terrence F. Carraway Foundation.
