AESC Invests Additional $810 million, Creates 450 New Jobs In Florence

AESC will invest an additional $810 million, which will create an additional 450 jobs, in its Florence County electric vehicle battery factory.

The Dec. 12 announcement boosts AESC’s investment in Florence County to more than $1.6 billion, growing what was already the biggest investment in the county’s history.

“This investment is truly commendable and will significantly contribute to the vitality of our local economy,” Florence County Council Chairman Willard Dorriety said in a South Carolina Department of Commerce press release.

The company’s initial investment, announced in December 2022, of $810 million would’ve created 1,170 jobs. The total job count is now 1,620.

Junior Leadership Florence County Participates Social Issues and Community Service Day

Junior Leadership Florence County had a successful Social Issues and Community Service Day on Thursday, December 7th. The group of high school sophomores and juniors helped with Lighthouse Ministries’ Strengthening Families Program, created cards for Lydia’s Nest Operation Christmas Angels, and completed a shift at the Harvest Hope Food Bank’s new location. The JLFC program is possible through the partnership of Clemson Extension Florence County SC 4-H, Francis Marion University, and the Greater Florence Chamber. Christmas Magic To Light Up Downtown Florence

The Pee Dee is feeling the Christmas spirit. The magic of Christmas is especially strong in and around downtown Florence.

The Florence Downtown Development Corp. and Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce are encouraging residents to shop local retailers and dine in local restaurants.

The Downtown Development Corp. has put up its Downtown Holiday Music and Light Show.  The light show is synchronized with Christmas music that will be playing from 5:30 to 10 p.m. nightly through Dec. 31, Florence Downtown Development Manager Hannah Davis said.

The light show is located in the 100 block of South Dargan Street in downtown Florence.
