Florence Seeking Federal Help for Water, Sewer – City Spending $138M
The City of Florence operates about 700 miles of water lines and 500 miles of sewer and plans to invest $138 million in improving the system. But it’s hoping to do more work than that with the help of grants. The city’s first round of funding includes borrowing through bonds.
“The city has a bonding capacity up to $270 million there. We’ve used $138 million of that,” City Manager Scotty Davis said last month. “We’re asking the federal government for help. We need help from the federal government. We have about over $300 million in requests, funding requests and grants on the federal government side, almost $30 million at the state side there,” he said.
