Barringer General Store Opens In Downtown Florence

George Stoddard and his wife Patsy, along with his staff Tim and Kathy, Florence Mayor Teresa Myers Ervin and Florence Chamber Ambassadors cut their ceremonial ribbon, opening Barringer General Store at 138 West Evans St. Downtown Florence, and joining the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Stoddard welcomed everyone to come the Barringer’s to sit a spell, relax and enjoy the ambience of an old-fashioned general store. George told the audience he wants to make this a place where people come and sit, have a coffee, or drink a soda from your childhood days, play some checkers and if you find something you like make a purchase.

Barringer’s will stock local products as much as possible with local honey, pecans, and hand soaps made by local businesses in and around the area.

Francis Marion Recognized As Great College To Work, Again

Francis Marion University has been named to the 2023 Great Colleges to Work For® list for the eleventh year in a row, with top marks in all ten categories measured. Universities are recognized based on results from surveys administered to employees.

Being a workplace that excels in all ten parameters of the assessment, FMU has earned the special designation of Honor Roll institution. This year marks FMU’s tenth time receiving Honor Roll distinction. Out of the 194 universities that participated, 72 received recognition as a “Great College to Work For,” and only 42 received Honor Roll status.

The Counseling Center of Florence Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

David A Kahn, PhD, LPC, LPCS along with Marlena Hanna Lownsberry of the Counseling Center along with family members, staff, friends, and Chamber Ambassadors welcome the Counseling Center to the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce.

The Counseling Center of Florence was founded February 14, 2000. What a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, by opening the doors to thousands of people who have experienced healing in their lives and their relationships with the help of our compassionate counseling experts!

TCC was founded by Dr. David Kahn, PhD, LPC, LPCS, and his Business Manager, Marlena Hanna Lownsberry. They had the vision to create a center that would foster healthy relationships and nurture young counselors, teaching them the ethics and procedures necessary to have a successful practice.

Reaching Enriching Accelerating Lives, LLC is a privately-owned, for-profit business in the State of South Carolina. It was founded by Dr. Rechel M. Anderson, CEO/Owner. Dr. Anderson, born and raised in Florence, is a graduate of West Florence High School. Dr. Rechel M. Anderson is a professional educator who enjoys serving others. More specifically, she is committed to enriching the lives of young people.

Reaching Enriching Accelerating Lives (R.E.A.L.), LLC originated as a need to provide High Management Child Caring Services in Florence, South Carolina and/or within the surrounding Pee Dee area to meet the needs of at-risk males, ages 12-21 years of age (e.g., abused/neglected, emotionally disturbed, dependent/neglected. status offenders, substance abuse, etc.).

M.O.V.E. with Coach T Fitness will be offering strength training, personal training, group fitness classes, Zumba, boot camps, and so much more. “Together, we’ll help you accomplish your fitness goals. Come out and Move with Coach T!”

Our desire is to help all fitness levels reach their goals. Movement is good for our bodies and our minds. Together we’re working towards increasing knowledge about healthy habits and exercise. We have a focus to help impact our community (including our youth) with fitness. Get them moving and understanding the importance of physical health. The goal is to overcome the obesity stigma.
