MLK Celebration Held January 15

The Greater Florence Chamber partnered with Francis Marion University for the annual celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy on January 15th at FMU’s Chapman Auditorium.

The keynote speaker was Florence County Councilman Reverend Waymond Mumford, speaking on Dr. King’s legacy of service and social justice.

The celebration also included performances by the award winning YGB Gospel Choir and other talented members of student body.

Leadership Florence Participates In Nonprofit and Social Issues Day

The Greater Florence Chamber’s Leadership Florence class held its annual Nonprofit and Social Issues Day last week, offering participants a firsthand look at the vital role nonprofit organizations play in strengthening the community.

The 42-member class visited, toured and heard directly from leaders of several nonprofit agencies and social service providers across the Florence area. Presentations included Lighthouse Ministries, the YMCA, American Red Cross, My Brother’s Keeper and CARE House.

Special thanks to House of Hope Pee Dee and Senior Citizens Association.

Throughout the day, class members gained insight into how these organizations address critical needs, collaborate with community partners and work daily to improve quality of life for Florence residents.

Community Broadcasters Welcomes Jason Fox as Vice President & Director of Sales

We are excited to welcome Jason Fox as Vice President & Director of Sales for Community Broadcasters, overseeing our radio stations in Florence, Sumter, and Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Jason joins Community Broadcasters from the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, where he built an accomplished career in broadcast media and integrated marketing while living in Virginia Beach, VA. He brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience driving revenue growth, leading multi-market sales organizations, and developing high-impact advertising solutions across radio, television, digital, streaming, and experiential platforms.

Throughout his career, Jason has held leadership roles with several respected media organizations, including iHeartMedia, Nexstar Media Group, Sinclair Communications, and Mainivent Advertising Agency, where he most recently served as Director of Sales & Media and General Manager. His background includes overseeing multimillion-dollar advertising portfolios, leading cross-functional teams, and building long-term partnerships with local businesses, regional brands, healthcare systems, financial institutions, and civic organizations.

Fellows In Education Visit Florence 1 District Offices

On Tuesday, January 13th, the Fellows in Education class held their monthly meeting at the Florence 1 Schools District Office.

The F1S District Office visit included a great lunch while Fellow participants heard about school district programs and initiatives from a variety of the district leaders, such as Erick Figueras, Director of Arts & Innovative Programs; Cathy Lee, Blue Zones Coordinator; Superintendent Richard O’Malley; and Krystle Graham, Coordinator of Clinical Services.

Fellows in Education is a joint program between Florence 1 Schools, The School Foundation and the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce and is designed to give local community leaders a unique, behind-the-scenes look into schools across Florence 1 over the course of eight months.

The Chamber’s Legislative Breakfast With Senator Reichenbach Set For February – SOLD OUT

The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Winter Legislative Breakfast will be held on Friday, February 20 at The Florence Center.

This year’s speaker will be South Carolina Senator Mike Reichenbach representing District 31 covering Darlington and Florence Counties. His conversation will cover hot topics such as state infrastructure, education technology (phone-free schools), state employee compensation, tax policy as well as the ongoing legislative discussions on DEI and betting.

The doors for breakfast will open at 7:30 a.m. and the program begins at 7:50 a.m.   The breakfast is made possible by Duke Energy and TD Bank.

Smiling Scoops Recognized As Business of the Quarter

Last Week the Florence Chamber of Commerce and The City of Florence recognized Smiling Scoops with Resolution No. 2026-01 as the Business of the Quarter at the regular City Council meeting.

Smiling Scoops offers different flavors of ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes and more.

Tenacious Grace Cuts Ribbon on Chamber Membership

On Wednesday, January 14th, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for Tenacious Grace in Florence.

Tenacious Grace, a local nonprofit, operates Five Sparrows, a free, 18-24 month, faith-based residential recovery program for women who are survivors of violence and trauma, substance use disorder, financial hardship, and sexual exploitation. During a resident’s stay in the program, she has access to medical care, counseling, job training, spiritual growth opportunities, relational support, recovery services, employment, and accountability – all at no cost to her.
